Our sisters are in trouble.
Women are not as seriously thought of as the weaker sex in America as we are in the rest of the world. I think about women who are not as fortunate as I living a life of fear in Bulgaria and Egypt. They need help. That is why Valentines Day is also known as V-Day.
V-Day is a worldwide activist movement that raises money for groups trying to end violence against women. It is not only celebrated on the 14th of February, but through February and March. V-day events are held periodically during this time frame. To learn more about it go to www.vday.org .
According the U.N., 1 in every 3 women around the world will be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her life. Think of the emotional impact that has on a woman… Having that happen will:
1. Make her ashamed of who she is inside.
2. Makes her apologize for being.
3. Destroys her self-esteem.
4. Make her shy away from the center stage and believes that invisibility is her survival.
5. Makes her afraid to walk alone.
6. Makes her blame herself.
7. Makes her afraid to love.
8. Takes away her sense of play, her desire to dance and move freely.
9. Eradicates her ability to think clearly or ask the questions that are inside her.
10. Causes her to distrust people, and lose faith in humanity.
11. Makes her wear layers of clothing or expose to much of herself.
12. Makes her numb and disconnected from her authentic self.
13. Makes her go faster than she is ready to go.
14. Breaks her heart…
This was a topic in a Seventeen Magazine that I picked up at the grocery store while waiting for my prescription, like… forever ago…
I hope it makes you think.
