The mere thoughts that reside in my mind.

What are the benefits of being a vegan? From what I can see, it is a very unhealthy “belief”.

Although… I do understand vegetarians who can eat the products from animals. They have a very healthy lifestyle, they get all the vitamins and nutrients their body needs… but might lack a little protein unless they eat beans constantly. They actually might be somewhat healthier than most people.

But with being a vegan, all you can eat/drink is broccoli and water… you can’t (or at least you shouldn’t) eat Altoids (contain gelatin from pigs) or honey (which obviously comes from bees). Then on top of that they can’t wear or use silk, down or leather. That's just stupid. Because there is no purpose!

Animals are to be eaten. We as humans are at the top of the food chain and it is natural to be the predators and eat the lower animals on the food chain. You don’t see cats as vegetarians walking around saying, “OOO!! A poor little mouse, but I can’t eat it because it is absolutely cruel to kill a poor defenseless creature.” And then watch it go and chew on some freaking grass. It is their natural instinct to be carnivores… and it is perfectly natural for humans to eat cows and pigs.

As animals having their own personality… I believe in that theory with all my heart. You can tell that no two animals are the same… maybe not by physical structure, but their personalities are all different. But eating the lower specimens on the food chain is necessary...

I don’t believe in torturing animals for pleasure…. But I do believe that the “murder” of animals is necessary from the survival of the human race.

It also helps maintain the animal populations if you disagree with everything else I've said.

I agree...vegans are a bit stupid. They think eating animals is cruel....I think it's delicious....but let them think what they want.

Meat, it's what's for dinner

Is this post a joke? I hope so; if not, you're horribly misinformed and/or too lazy to think this argument through very far.

Furthermore, why do you even care if some people's lifestyle is vegan? Does it affect you at all? Being vegan doesn't equal being stupid.

Some vegans are hateful to those who aren't. I love the Pretenders, but Chrissie Hynde pisses me off. Another reason people are obviously supposed to eat meat is that we have incisor teeth. Although I do wish there was a better way of killing them. Slaughterhouses are pretty disgusting.

Asian people eat dogs. We think it's cruel, but it's their culture.

Our ancestors didn't fight their way up the food chain for me to be eating only veggies!! ;~D

Actually, the only ones I do respect are the ones who will only eat fruits and veggies that have already fallen off a plant, and won't eat plants or animals at all. No, I couldn't (and wouldn't) live like that, but hey, they really live what they believe.

For the rest, they seem to pick and choose which life forms are above killing and which aren't.

Of course, all are free to make their choices, and more power to them!

Someday we will all come to the realization that life is only preserved by consuming that which was once alive.

I'm weird about meat, but it's a personal thing. It doesn't make me any better (or any WORSE) than anyone else.

I do find your attitude toward vegans to be pretty arrogant and hateful, though. Any particular reason why you're so enraged at people who don't live the same way you do?

I dunno, I think to each his own... Not that a disagree with the message of this article, I just think it was protrayed in a kinda harsh way. Reality is, I love steak, and a good, lean, thick porkchop.... Excuse me, I gotta go to the kitchen!

When I first turned lacto-ovo vegetarian, I was very annoying, constantly trying to force my opinions on everyone else and it just made people want to eat meat even more because I was being rude. For some reason though, ever since I stopped, I have found no shortage of meat eaters who, the moment you tell them "I'm a vegetarian", want to launch into a list of reasons I shouldn't be. I don't do this every time someone tells me "I'm a Christian". It is equally rude and arrogant.

"What are the benefits of being a vegan? From what I can see, it is a very unhealthy “belief”."

I think you are missing the point. Only cop out vegos do it for health reasons. It's a moral issue. Many animals that are farmed for their products (eg cows for milk) are treated abominably by farmers and the vegans are taking a stance against this. I admire for them for it.\

"Animals are to be eaten. We as humans are at the top of the food chain and it is natural to be the predators and eat the lower animals on the food chain. "

This argument would be like me saying to a Christian "But God doesn't exist in the way you think he does. There are many Gods and they don't take on a human form. Believe it because I said it". Most vegans have pretty strongly considered the arguments about the food chain. As a vegetarian, I know I have. They don't convince me. Simply stating your beliefs about the food chain is a pretty ridiculous way to conduct a philosophical debate. "For the rest, they seem to pick and choose which life forms are above killing and which aren't." We all do this every day. Are you a cannibal? What are your views on abortion? Is a chicken's egg a life? I respect fruitarians, but I don't believe that plants have a soul, so I eat them. I also respect that you're not a cannibal because of your beliefs about the food chain. Does that mean I have to believe in them too?

By the way... Where the hell do I get the green smilies?

The Forums turn mine green.  But not all, so I am not sure why some are and some are not.

I dont like the way some animals are treated, and hence that is why I will never eat veal.  But I do eat meat.  My Brother is a vegan, and he is not pushy about it, nor does he object when others eat meat around him.

Yea, some (especially like the PETA PESTS) are real a-holes about it, but most dont pontificate on it constantly, so unless you really get to know them, you would never know they were vegans.

Many vegans use it as a soapbox issue. I have a few vegan friends who will lecture me for eating a steak, or a hamburger. THey will tell me I'm perpetuating a system of horrible animal cruelty and that it's not our place in the world to decide what forms of life live and die. I personally couldn't care less what the hell someone eats and doesn't eat unless they're complaining about something I cooked. I like my steaks medium rare... deliciously bloody. You can eat your salad, which is delicious in its own right. I'll eat my cow, you eat your lettuce and we'll both just leave each other alone.

I liken many preaching vegans to evangelical Christians. They are annoying as hell and are more likely to drive people in the OPPOSITE direction than anything else. Preach to me about the evils of meat and I'll make a point of eating a steak in front of you.

Meat literally makes me sick.  I have found that meat aggravates my rheumatoid arthritis more than anything else that exists.  I also found that I have less lupus flares and skin conditions (which are related to the form of lupus that I have) since I quit eating meat.  I much rather change my diet than to take more pills that hardly work.

However, anyone who thinks that vegans or vegetarians don't get enough protein are just uninformed.

Veggies have protein in them.  Not as concentrated as meat, but it is there.  Nuts and legumes are packed with protein.  You can make a complete protein (there are different forms of protein) by combining certain veggies and grains.  You don't need animal protein of any sort to be healthy.

I could never be a vegan though- I love cheese too much.  Don't care about eggs or milk....but cheese is a different story.

No matter what side you are on, it's really irritating to hear the other side say you are "wrong" or "stupid" because the way you eat.
