The mere thoughts that reside in my mind.

What does a smile mean? Does it mean “Hello”? Does it mean “Glad to see you”? Is it a sarcastic way of saying, “You got exactly what you deserved.” or “Look at where I am and look at where you are.”?

Every time I see a person smile… I question exactly what it means. But when they come up and talk to you following that smile… you tend to know their exact intentions. They wanted it to be friendly and they wanted to be thoughtful.

When you see someone smile at you, but they absolutely refuse to talk to you or look at you otherwise… what is that supposed to mean? In my opinion it is not truly a “real smile”, it’s a sarcastic way of mocking you. Can anyone agree with me or am I sounding retarded?

So, don’t smile at someone if you don’t intend to be kind. Even people who don’t even know me will smile and follow it with a hello. But when someone you thought you knew smiles at you but refuses to speak a single word to you… then what?

What does a smile mean? And is it even worth smiling back anymore?

Depends on a relationship with the person...if they are a friend or a complete stranger then it's a friendly smile or at least a polite one. If the person smiles and you're not exactly getting along then perhaps some malice lies behind it....though I've never been one to smile at people I don't like...more of a "go fuck yourself" glare is what I give those bastards.

A smile to me is a kind thing. When people smile at me, i can't help but smile back, but that is the person i am. Most people smile at me, but I don't think they are mocking me. But I may be wrong to. I am always usually always wearing a smile, b.c you never know when that smile will brighten a person day.

Gee....I think most people smile at others out of human friendliness, a smile from a stranger can be another way of greeting someone. If someone is looking at me and thinking I got what I deserved,
chances are they're sneering at me! But then....how would I know just what they're thinking?? just because they're sneering???
maybe they have a mosquito up their nose!
Seriously though, where I come from, people ARE nice, and usually do say hi too with that smile.
When I lived in the big city though, I learned not to smile at men I didn't know, one time I smiled at a guy in a car that was
one the opposite side of the street, ( I was in my taxicab) and he whipped a u-turn and followed me for a mile or so!! until I turned
into the police station!
And so it goes, different people have different beliefs about that custom, and so it might be a case of cultures clashing...?? maybe?
