The mere thoughts that reside in my mind.

I am not as dumb as you guys think. I have a plan.

I make good friends with the people of the younger classes. They actually respect me… look up to me… and I like them as people. They don’t lie, deceive, or turn around and stab your back! It’s the people in my class and older who are the bitches and bastards!

And besides… I am going to get close (personally) to some of them, and maybe not so close with others. I will be there and offer to be the best friend they ever had… I would never even fucking DREAM of hurting them or their feelings. All the kids in the younger grades that are coming up are good kids, and I like them a lot.

I will have underclassmen who will actually miss me when I’m gone, unlike some upperclassmen now. And they will actually be upset that I’m leaving instead of counting down the days until I’m gone!

I have become very good friends with some of the upcoming freshman. And I have told them every single detail of what really goes on in the high school band. There is a girl, Alyssa (I am not exactly sure how to spell her name because there is so many variations… but I shall look it up tomorrow!). Alyssa is a very bright, talented girl. We have also been friends for quite sometime because we played soccer together when we were younger. (I’m sorry Tia, but you have to share Alyssa even though she is your freshman, ok?). I am looking forward to being band mates with her… she just has an aura of happiness around her.

A close group of friends and I have created an “Adopt a freshman” program. I’ve already adopted Olivia, an upcoming saxophone in my section. When you “adopt a freshman”, the whole idea is to always be there for them… on a musical and personal level. You have to be the “upperclassman best friend” type of person. You also have to find a nickname, because our group is thinking about doing something special at the end of the year with them…

I still have not come up with a good nickname for her… but I am still pondering one!

The drum line won’t let anyone else name their freshman. The new freshman snare’s name is Princess Sofia… he doesn’t like it much, but he’ll deal with it.

I think Shaun should adopt Matt… if he really wants to. Matt really is a sweet kid who is going to play saxophone, people just take him on as kind of “weird”. But, who isn’t in the band? The whole junior high thinks I am a psycho because I will walk up to various girls and put my face in the back of their head and smell their hair. It’s funny… the victim and I end up in a conversation afterward every time… it’s crazy how that introduces you to people.

For every new freshman, let me heed a word of wisdom… live for the moment and never waste a minute of band or anything else; high school flies by before your eyes… and you can never undo what you’ve done.

Also, be careful girls… most men are bastards: we are all going to have this talk at band camp because I REFUSE to let any freshman girl take the same path I did and receive hell their whole freshman and sophomore years like I did. Wait for love… getting your first kiss over with because of lust is not worth it. And wasting your second on an asshole isn’t worth it either.

Best wishes and I look forward to seeing you freshman the first week of band practice… bright and early!

Adopt a freshman, sounds interesting....how about I adopt the whole lot? I am 50% of the Senior class so it's my responsibility. Looks like you're takin' my road, Sam....I've never had any problems with people and I like to try and be friends with everyone, as long as they don't drive me crazy. Oh, and try not to scare the freshman...don't tell them "everything".......yet.

it sounds like you would like to give good advise to a younger group. That is great knowing that you are willing to really lend an honest hand. Just remember who is older and a little wiser. Set that example you want to set. A good start is to have good and civel language. Sometimes harsh words sound to be a little over the tracks.
